It was an incredible honor to be a Member of the Zambia Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee.
Rhodes Trust, one of the most prestigious international scholarship programmes, enables outstanding young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford.
The rigorous selection process allowed me to understand the challenging circumstances each participant had to confront and overcome in order to achieve their quest for higher education.
My key lessons from the candidate’s personal journeys were:
1) Let your personal goals fuel your determination.
2) Do not let countless challenges and rejections deter you from your purpose – use it as motivation.
It was truly a privilege to serve and be able to transform lives through the gift of higher education.
